There's no question that Marvel dominates the blockbuster movie market, and the entertainment giant is ready to do the same thing on TV. With a host of series in production and development, Marvel's ready to prove that its superheroes can work on the small screen just as well as they do in the movies, and they'll have another chance to do that with the upcoming Iron Fist series on Netflix.
Iron Fist is set to be a gritty kung fu action series featuring Marvel's premier martial arts master Danny Rand, a.k.a. the Iron Fist. The character is a fan favorite for comic book lovers, and if the response to Marvel's other shows is any indication, Iron Fist is bound to be a huge hit. But don't worry if you're unfamiliar with the character, because we're running through everything we know about Iron Fist before the series premiere.
Iron Fist News And Updates
Updated 10/04/2016
We have our first official look at Danny Rand in action thanks to Netflix's Twitter account. The photo shows star Finn Jones taking a leaping strike at his opponent. Here's to hoping we see Rand in his classic green and gold costume sometime soon.
Alongside the first official image, it was announced that Iron Fist will premiere on Netflix on March 17, 2017. A teaser revealing the premiere date was accompanied by an updated synopsis for the series, stating:
Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.
Leaked set photos have already revealed a glimpse at Jones as Danny Rand, and he looks more like a homeless guy than a superhero. We've also seen him alongside actress Jessica Stroup, who plays Danny's childhood friend Joy Meachum.
Iron Fist is the final show leading up to The Defenders, Marvel's epic series that will see the martial arts master join forces with other Netflix heroes Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage to save New York City from destruction. A teaser from San Diego Comic-Con 2016 proved that the team will face some major challenges along the way.
Back in March 2016, Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada revealed that Iron Fist will have a totally different feel than the company's previous TV series, noting:
"Our goal is to provide four different shows that each have their own feel while, again, feeling like they are a part of a whole. Not an easy task, but I can tell you that our team is really fantastic at doing this. It’s still the early stages of Iron Fist so I’m a little hesitant to say too much more than that. But Danny Rand is a completely different character and the world that he comes from, how he obtained his powers and his skills — all completely different. I think fans will be pleased."

Diehard fans noticed some Iron Fist Easter Eggs all the way back inDaredevil Season 1 tied to the appearance of drug lord Madame Gao. Her references to a homeland "a considerable distance farther" than China and the appearance of the Steel Serpent symbol from Iron Fist comics indicate that she could actually be the villainous Crane Mother from Marvel Comics's The Immortal Iron Fist series. Could Gao appear inIron Fist as Crane Mother and bring her warrior champion Steel Serpent with her?
Back in March, it was rumored that producers were casting the role of Marvel Comics martial artist Shang-Chi for Iron Fist. Many were excited at the potential of an Asian co-star in the series, though with no official word on the character's inclusion it looks like he'll be left out this time around. But knowing Marvel, anything could happen.
